modern porn: cupido's film award to best new short film

I've been busy this week, including with last minute work for the Modern Porn: Cupido's Film Award to Best New Short Film that I'm presenting next weekend in Oslo, Norway. I'm off this Sunday and will announce the winner the following weekend. The nominees are:

Elin Magnusson: “Skin” (Dirty Diaries, 2009) Sweden

Ingrid Ryberg: “Phone Fuck” (Dirty Diaries, 2009) Sweden

Erika Lust: “Handcuffs” (Life, Love, Lust, 2010) Sweden-Spain

Héléna Noguerra: “Peep Show Heros” (X-femmes, 2008) Belgium-France

Murielle Scherre: “actions/louder/words” (J’fais du porno et j’aime ça, 2009) Belgium

Murielle Scherre: “j’ai rendez-vous avec vous” ” (J’fais du porno et j’aime ça, 2009) Belgium

These are all films I present in my book, and I will also discuss at the film award how the women behind these films seem to have found the short film format to have particularly effective potential when transforming porn into something truly progressive and positive and good and inspiring. Escaping the sterile formulaic rigidity of the 90-minute porn DVD filled with the standard X amount of clinical positions and graphic shots of genitals and pumping and blowjobs and facials, these women use the short film format to instead create a moving, sensual, arousing rhythmic flow, lingering caressingly on soft skin (our largest physical erogenous zone), touching our mind (our truest largest erogenous zone), moving teasingly by our crotches (surely affected too), and so on, in a spinning dance of erotic energy where it's not he taking her or, vice versa, she taking him; or he objectifying her or, vice versa, she objectifying him, but both holding and wanting to eat each other up with each other's bodies and eyes.

It's quite beautiful.

And I look forward to present these films in only a bit more than a week!

So I'm off already this coming Sunday and I have lots of other work and research to conduct in Oslo while I'm there too. For one I received a grant to learn more about how health care professionals there teach their clients with developmental disabilities about sex. And then I'll also be doing some research for an article I've been invited to write for an anthology on diversity in the Nordic countries. My article will be about the speed limit of desire in Norway. Specifically the diversities of attitudes toward and experiences among women as they pertain to sex, telling a complex story of free, but not quite free, and everything in between.

I aim to post an update here about it all while I'm there.
